RMSI offer a broad range of medical services globally. Whether it is a medical charter flight, remote medical services or primary response medivac, RMSI has the solution. These include:

Air ambulance Retrieval

International Retrieval Services

When a specific medical facility does not have the appropriate capabilities to continue a patients treatment or the area is simply too remote or hostile to allow continued care, RMSI provides the answer…

Aeromedical transfer either by helicopter or fixed wing aircraft is the most expeditious and efficient means of transport and often the only choice to get the patient where he/she needs to be. This element is arguably the most vital link in a patient’s chain of survival.

The treatment of patients at altitude and in the mobile environment of aircraft requires extensive specialist training and experience. RMSI provide clinicians specialized in aviation medicine who are just as comfortable flying into war zones and dealing with complex logistic situations as they are conducting a medical charter flight from one first world hospital to another.

Our current aero-medical operations have teams and aircraft based in Afghanistan and Dubai ready and waiting to launch an emergency medical flight. Our Dubai based teams are able to respond 24hrs a day to any area across the Middle East, Central Asia or Northern Africa in high speed Hawker 800 jet aircraft. A response can be airborne within 2-3hrs of notification, whether to another first world location for VIP air evacuation or to the many remote or hostile areas in the region including Iraq, Afghanistan, Sudan, Somalia and Pakistan.

If you require an emergency medical flight, RMSI perform the following aero-medical transport services for domestic (Afghanistan) and International flights:

Private Medically Equipped Aircraft

Private air ambulance aircraft is the service utilized most often. The medical jet is configured as a mini intensive care unit and is capable of handling Basic Life Support, Advanced Life Support and Critical Care patients. Medical Staff consist of Emergency/Intensive Care/Anesthetic specialist Doctors, Critical Care Nurses and Intensive Care Paramedics. Aero-medical staffing is customized to each patient's particular needs. For flights into more challenging locations the crew will include an RMSI logistic/operations specialist to deal with any unexpected events, allowing clinical staff to remain focused solely on patient care and pilots to concentrate on flight procedures and safety.

RMSI provides a ‘VIP’ style air ambulance service utilizing Hawker 800 jet aircraft with a fully equipped galley and an accompanying Flight Attendant, a spacious lavatory, in-flight entertainment system and comfortable leather seating for escorting friends or family of the patient.

Examples of Standard Intensive Care equipment carried on all flights include:

Medical Escort Service

When a dedicated medivac flight is not required, RMSI provides medical escort services on commercial carriers from the Middle East, Central Asia and Northern Africa to any global destination.

Travel assistance on commercial flights is available when the attending physician has cleared the patient to travel with a medical escort. Medical escort patients must be stable and ambulatory, which means the patient must be able to walk onto the commercial flight and require minimal ongoing treatment. RMSI medical staff will consult with the patient’s assistance/insurance provider, evaluate his/her medical condition as it relates to air travel, and advise on the best method of transportation.

Medical escort flights on commercial airlines can take a number of days to arrange based on conditions and restrictions set forth by the selected airline. Commercial escort parameters out of Afghanistan and Iraq are very limited as existing commercial airlines do not have approved procedures and permissions to carry and secure oxygen cylinders and developing customs regulations do not currently allow for the carriage of restricted drugs on board commercial flights.

Ground Ambulance EMS

RMSI provides numerous ground ambulance Emergency Medical Service (EMS) capabilities to clients within Afghanistan and Iraq. Within Iraq, we are directly contracted to the US Department of Defense providing EMS to over 20, 000 US Marines and contractors.

RMSI have 4 road ambulances stationed in Kabul to provide 24hr Emergency Response to numerous entities including the United Nations, most USAID projects and contractors across the greater Kabul area.RMSI also have dedicated ambulances based at numerous clinics across Afghanistan.

With state of the art equipment and first world clinicians, calling an RMSI ambulance is as easy as being back home and just as professional as any typical ‘911’ service.

Mortal Remains Repatriation

We all hope this service will not be necessary, however if the unexpected occurs RMSI can assist. Deceased body repatriation is difficult from any location and is exponentially more complicated from remote and hostile areas. RMSI have completed many repatriations from Afghanistan and Iraq and now offer a seamless service if the unforeseen occurs. RMSI will complete all steps, from retrieving the deceased through handover to our repatriation partners at various international destinations.

RMSI will:

- Facilitate completion of all documentation including; Post Mortem Report, Free from Infectious Disease Certificate, Ministry of Health Release letter, Ministry of Interior Release letter, Embassy Seal Certificate, Customs clearance, Death Certificate etc.- Arrange temperature controlled mortuary facility

- Provide casket and coffin

- Arrange Embalming

- Arrange transport of deceased to any international location with our partner repatriation agencies

All handling of deceased persons will be conducted by qualified medical personnel who have extensive experience in such situations. RMSI strongly believe in and emphasize that deceased persons will be treated with the same professional, sensitive and respectful approach we extend to any living patient.

Remote Clinic Services

RMSI currently have six clinics across Afghanistan. Three located in Kabul; the others located on various NATO military bases. RMSI clinics offer general practice health care and perform minor surgical interventions. All clinics offer pharmacy services, employment medicals, drug screening, immunizations and emergency resuscitation rooms for initial treatment and holding of serious cases while appropriate hospitalization is arranged. We also have a physiotherapist and psychologist at the RMSI main clinic in Kabul. All clinics are resourced with expatriate doctors/paramedics/nurses who are internationally certified.

All remote clinics and other RMSI remote medical services are linked to the RMSI Operations Centre for access to immediate road or air ambulance back-up. Video link infrastructure also allows RMSI clinical staff to discuss and view complex cases remotely or gain specialist medical advice where required.
